Why the installation matters as much as the window
A premium window installed out of square, or without proper flashing at the sill, leaks air and water and performs worse than a budget window installed correctly. When you compare quotes, ask how each opening is flashed and sealed, not just which brand is in the box.
Older homes
Houses built before 1978 may have lead paint on the old sashes and trim, so removal should follow lead-safe work practices. In designated historic districts in Montgomery County, exterior changes go through a Historic Area Work Permit first.
