Can You Still Get Aluminum Siding to Match a 1960s House?

Profile — the shape of the panel face. Aluminum siding was made in a manageable set of profiles: single 8, double 4, double 5, and a handful of vertical and shake patterns. This is the most matchable of the three.

Short answer: Often yes. Aluminum siding was produced in a limited number of panel profiles and exposure widths, and salvage plus specialty suppliers still carry many of them. Profile matching is usually solvable. Color matching is harder, because decades of sun have moved your existing panels off their original shade.

Three things have to match, and they are not equally hard

Exposure — how much of each panel shows once it is locked in. Get this wrong and the horizontal lines on the repaired section do not line up with the rest of the wall, which the eye catches immediately even at a distance.

Color — the hard one. Your existing siding has been in the sun for fifty years. Even a factory-original color in the original shade will not match what is on your wall now, because what is on your wall now has drifted. This is why a technically perfect repair can still read as a patch.

What we actually do about the color problem

Three practical options, and we will tell you which one your house calls for rather than defaulting to the biggest job.

Where the material comes from

Salvage yards, specialty siding suppliers who stock discontinued profiles, and occasionally the homeowner's own garage — a surprising number of mid-century DMV homes have a bundle of leftover panels from the original install sitting in a crawlspace or under a deck. It is worth looking before you assume nothing exists.

We bring a sample board to the inspection and compare in daylight against your actual wall, not against a chart. You will know before you commit whether the repair will disappear or whether it will show.
