Our name is on every roof

We are a family business, not a storm-chasing crew that disappears after the check clears. We live and work in the same Maryland and Virginia communities we serve, and everything below is meant to be checked rather than believed.

Our mission
To be the contractor a Maryland or Virginia family calls once and keeps — by telling homeowners the truth about their home, building to a standard they can verify, and putting our name on every job.
Assembled from what this company has said about itself since 2005: a family business built on roofs done right, quality craftsmanship, honest service and attention to detail. The three clauses are the three things everything below is measured against.

Five principles, and what each one costs us

A value that never costs anything is a slogan. Each of these has a price attached, and the price is the reason it means something.

1

Honest assessments, including the unprofitable ones

If your roof does not need replacing, we tell you — and we put it in writing. We have talked homeowners out of jobs they did not need, which is how we earn the ones they do.

What it costs: inspections that end with no sale, on a service we provide free. We would rather lose that appointment than sell a roof to someone who did not need one.

2

An informed homeowner is our best customer

We publish the component-level detail most contractors would rather you did not have: what underlayment does, why intake has to match exhaust, what a real starter strip is, what a warranty actually excludes. Nothing gated, no email required.

What it costs: the information advantage. Read The UD Standard and you can interrogate our quote as easily as anyone else’s. That is the point.

3

Family accountability

We are a family business, not a storm-chasing crew that disappears after the check clears. Our name is on every roof, and we live and work in the same communities we serve.

What it costs: we cannot move on. A job done badly in Bethesda or Alexandria stays in the same market we have to sell in next year.

4

Credentials you can verify

Roofing is a trade where anyone can print a business card. We are licensed in Maryland as MHIC #111971 and in Virginia as DPOR Class A #2705183185, factory-certified by GAF, and accountable to the BBB. Look us up — we will wait.

What it costs: every one of those is a public record, which means every one of them can be checked against what we claim. They are printed on our contracts for that reason.

5

Built to last, and documented

GAF Factory-Certified installation, a GAF limited lifetime material warranty on the materials, and our own 2-year workmanship warranty on the installation. Every finding photographed, every scope itemised in writing before work starts.

What it costs: documentation is evidence, and evidence cuts both ways. A photographed build is a build you can be held to.

Four things we will not do

These are more useful than values, because they are testable. If you ever catch us doing one of them, you have caught us.

We will not promise what your insurer will decide

Coverage is your carrier’s determination, never ours. We document damage thoroughly, we meet your adjuster on the roof, and we submit what we find. On an approved claim your deductible is typically your out-of-pocket cost, as your policy and carrier determine. We will never offer to absorb, waive, discount or rebate it — that is insurance fraud in both Maryland and Virginia, and a contractor who offers is telling you how they intend to treat your claim. We are not public adjusters and we do not act as one.

We will not advertise a service area we are not licensed for

Maryland and Virginia. That is where we hold licences, and that is where we work. You will not find us claiming the District of Columbia or Pennsylvania on this site, in an ad, or on a truck, because we are not licensed to perform home improvement work in either — and a contractor willing to overstate their licensed territory has already told you something about their paperwork.

We will not work outside our licences

Electrical, plumbing, gas and HVAC work is performed by licensed trade partners, under permit and inspected. On the general contracting side that qualifier appears on every scope for a reason: those trades are licensed separately because the consequences of getting them wrong are not cosmetic.

We will not claim crews work around the clock

Calls are answered and appointments booked 24/7, including by our AI assistant after hours — you will not reach a voicemail. Crews work normal hours, because roofing at 3am is neither safe nor good. Free inspections are typically scheduled within 24 hours of your call, which is a turnaround promise and a different thing entirely.

Proof, not adjectives

The proof, with somewhere to check it

Every claim on this page is either a public record, a rating we do not control, or a document we hand you. Here is where to verify each one.

Review figures reflect our Google Business Profile at the time of writing and are shown as visible information only — we do not mark our own ratings up as structured data, because a rating the reviewed business controls is not eligible for star treatment in search. Questions about how we work

What is the United Developers mission statement?

To be the contractor a Maryland or Virginia family calls once and keeps — by telling homeowners the truth about their home, building to a standard they can verify, and putting our name on every job. Those three clauses are what everything else is measured against: honest assessments even when they end without a sale, published component-level education so a homeowner can check the work, and credentials and documentation that are public records rather than promises. United Developers is a family-owned roofing and exterior contractor founded in 2005, serving Maryland and Virginia from Bethesda.

Is United Developers licensed, and how do I check?

Yes, in both states we work in, and both are public records. Maryland licence MHIC #111971 is verifiable through the Maryland Home Improvement Commission, and Virginia licence DPOR Class A #2705183185 through the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation licence lookup. We are also GAF Factory-Certified, which is listed in GAF's own contractor directory, and BBB accredited with an A+ rating. The legal entity is PS International Incorporation, trading as United Developers and UD Roofing, at 4915 St Elmo Ave Ste 403, Bethesda, MD 20814.

What areas do you actually serve?

Maryland and Virginia only. Those are the two states where we hold home improvement licences, so those are the two states where we work — you will not find us advertising the District of Columbia or Pennsylvania anywhere on this site, in an ad or on a vehicle. Our office is in Bethesda, Maryland, and we serve homeowners and businesses across both states, in English, Spanish, Hindi and Russian.

What happens if my roof does not need work?

We tell you, in writing, and you keep the photo report anyway. That is not a courtesy line; it is the instruction our inspectors work to, and it is the reason the inspection is free and carries no obligation. We have talked plenty of homeowners out of replacements they did not need, and that is how we earn the ones they do. If you want a second opinion on a quote you already have, that is also a legitimate reason to book.

Are you available 24 hours a day?

Calls are answered and appointments booked 24/7, including by our AI assistant after hours, so you never reach a voicemail. Crews work normal hours, because roofing work performed in the middle of the night is neither safe nor good. Free inspections are typically scheduled within 24 hours of your call — that is a turnaround commitment rather than a claim about when work is carried out, and we keep the distinction deliberately.

Where to go next

The mission is only meaningful if you can check the work. That is what the education layer is for.

Free · no obligation

Hold us to it.

Book the free inspection and check the mission against the work: a photo report of every finding, a written line-item scope naming actual products, and an honest verdict — including the one that ends without a sale.
