For United Developers customers

Make United Developers your go-to roofer on Google

If we did right by your home, there is a 60-second thank-you that keeps paying you back: follow us and save us on Google Maps, so the next time something goes wrong up there you are not searching from scratch at 9pm.

Everything here is optional, free and one tap each. It is simply the honest list of what a homeowner can actually do — written out because most advice on this subject describes buttons that do not exist for contractors.

Why this is worth a minute of your time

This is not a favor that only helps us. Three things change for you.

Storm notes reach you

When a hail or wind line crosses your county, our post lands in your Maps Updates tab — with the seasonal reminders that stop a small problem becoming a claim.

You find us in one tap

A leak does not wait for business hours. Saved to a list, we are a pin on your own map instead of a search you re-run while water comes through the ceiling.

Neighbors see a real contractor

Reviews, homeowner photos and answered questions are how a family two streets over tells a licensed local roofer from a call center.

The six steps, in order of how much they help

Do all six, or do one. Step three matters most. Everything below happens in the Google Maps app — open it, search United Developers, tap our listing.

1Follow us on Google Maps

The row of round buttons under our name holds Directions, Save, Nearby, Send to phone and Share. Below the review score sits Follow. Tap it once; it flips to Following.

From then on, anything we post — a storm note, a maintenance reminder, a finished job — shows up in your Maps Updates tab. Nothing is emailed or texted to you.

iPhone: the Updates tab sits in the bottom bar, between Explore and Saved. Android: same tab, and Follow also appears on our listing in the Google app and in Search results.

2Save us to one of your lists

Tap Save in that same button row and pick Favorites, Want to go, Starred places, or New list — plenty of homeowners keep one called something like “House people” with their plumber, electrician and roofer on it.

We then show as a pin marker on your personal map and sit in your Saved tab, one tap away.

iPhone and Android: identical. To undo it, reopen the profile and tap Saved.

3Leave a review

This is the one that changes whether a nervous homeowner calls us or calls a national ad budget. This link opens the review box directly — a sentence about what actually happened is plenty.

The specifics help most: the crew member’s name, how long it took, whether the yard was clean, how the insurance side went. Write it in your own words, and be honest.

Both platforms: you must be signed in to a Google account to post. Would rather not post publicly? Call (240) 880-2108 — it goes to the owner.

4Add photos of the finished roof

Tap Photos, then Add photos & videos (some versions read Add photo). Two or three shots is plenty — the front elevation, the ridge, a before-and-after pair.

We cannot edit or remove what you post — that is the point. Your photo of a real roof on a real street beats any picture we would have chosen.

iPhone: Maps asks for photo-library access the first time; you can grant it for selected photos only. Android: the picker opens into recent photos and lets you add a caption.

5Answer a question in Questions & answers

Scroll to Questions & answers and tap See all questions. Anyone can answer — and an answer from a real customer carries far more weight than the same words from us.

The questions are practical: did they clean up the nails, did the price hold, did they handle the adjuster. One sentence from experience is enough.

iPhone and Android: the section sits below the reviews on both, and you can ask a question of your own too.

6Share the profile with a neighbor

Tap Share and send the profile to whoever on your street is about to need a roofer — text, email, or a group chat.

Honestly, this is the most useful item here. Roofing is bought on a neighbor’s word far more often than on an ad, and one text saves that family two weeks of comparing bids.

iPhone: opens the iOS share sheet. Android: the system share menu, or copy the link and paste it yourself.

On other platforms, if you use them

None of this is required. If you already live on one of these, the equivalent action takes a moment.

  • Facebook — open our page and tap Follow. The Recommend option under the reviews section posts a public recommendation your own friends can see.
  • Instagram@udroofers is where the finished roofs and job-site photos go. Tap Follow; that is the whole action.
  • Yelp — on our Yelp page, the Save bookmark keeps us in your collections and Write a Review sits at the top.
  • Nextdoor — no link on purpose: the action that counts is neighbor-to-neighbor. When somebody on your street asks for a roofer, reply with your own experience, or use Recommend a business to name us in your feed.

One honest note about Google’s “Preferred Sources”

You may have seen advice telling customers to mark a local business as a Preferred Source on Google. We ran a version of it on our own review page. It was wrong, so we took it down and wrote this instead.

Preferred Sources is a real Google feature, but it is built for news publishers: it tells Google which news outlets you want to see more of in Top Stories. It does not exist for roofers, plumbers or any other local business. Go looking for it on our profile and you will not find it — not your phone, not your account. It was never there.

Following and saving are the genuine equivalents for a local business, which is why they are steps one and two.

Questions homeowners ask us about this

Does following a business on Google Maps cost anything or share my details?

No. Following is free, and it does not hand the business your name, email or phone number. It simply subscribes your Maps Updates tab to that profile’s posts. A business sees a follower count, not a list of who followed. You can unfollow from the same button at any time.

What is the difference between Follow and Save on Google Maps?

Follow subscribes you to the business’s posts, so its updates appear in your Maps Updates tab. Save drops the business onto a list of your own — Favorites, Want to go, or a list you name — so it shows as a pin on your personal map. They are independent, and you can use either one or both.

Can I leave a Google review without a Google account?

No. Google requires you to be signed in to post a review, which is one of the ways it limits fake ones. Any Google or Gmail account works, and the review publishes under that account’s name and photo. If you would rather not post publicly, call us at (240) 880-2108 and tell us directly instead.

Do you get to approve the photos a customer adds to your Google profile?

No. Photos a customer adds publish straight to the profile. We cannot edit them, reorder them or take them down, which is exactly why a homeowner’s own photo of a finished roof carries more weight than a marketing shot we chose ourselves.

Is there a Google setting that makes United Developers my preferred roofer?

Not for contractors. Google’s Preferred Sources setting is built for news publishers in Top Stories, so it never appears for a roofing company and you will not find it however long you look. Following the profile and saving it to a list are the real equivalents for a local business.

Thank you — genuinely

We are a family business in Bethesda, and 4.9 stars from 139 Google reviews is the only advertising we have ever counted on. If we earned it on your home, one review is the whole ask.
